What We're Reading, March 2010

I have always loved to read and I am so hopeful that Little Ricky will grow up loving books too. Here are a few of our current faves…

This is our go-to bedtime story. Little Ricky loves the sing-songy rhymes and I love the interaction with him. (“Kiss my little baby cakes on the nose, smooch my little baby cakes on the toes.”) A perfect way to end our day!

We started our Where Is Baby’s… collection with the Christmas one, followed by Valentine’s and now Easter. We both like Belly Button best though. Little Ricky loves the hands-on aspect of this book. (Although he chews on the flaps more than he lifts them!) And I love that the book is helping him learn body parts.

The subtitle is A Cool Counting Book. It is, indeed. Using some of the famous Chicago landmarks, this book is a great introduction to counting to 10!

(Yes, I read more than children’s books.) I just finished The Help recently and I still find myself thinking about it. What a beautifully written, thought-provoking book. Set in Mississippi during the civil rights movement, The Help follows the story of 2 African-American maids as they team up with a local white woman to anonymously write a book about what it is really like to be “the help.” Highly recommend this book!

I just started this book, but already I am finding things that resonate with me and make me more aware of why and how I go about my day. I’ll keep you posted…
